Why the old, rusty 4020 is my favorite.

As I was showing a group of recent headshots to my husband and pointed to this one as my favorite, he asked, “And the one with the rusty old 4020 is your favorite?” To which I replied, “Yeah, what’s wrong with it?!”
Truth is, I never thought about it as “an old, rusty tractor”. When I look at that tractor, I don’t see a rusty old piece of equipment. I see one of the tractors that helped my grandpa build our farm to what it is today. I look at it and see a workhorse of a tractor, that did everything imaginable on our farm way back when. I look at it and see my grandpa, tilling ground on a hot day, dust sticking to the sweat on his face. They don’t make ’em like that anymore.
I look at that tractor and see my dad in the driver’s seat with me perched up on the fender. I look at it and see the piece of equipment that pulled our square-baler as my brother, sister and I took turns stacking bales on the rack behind it. I see the tractor with the loader bucket that we used to pick up rocks & branches.
That tractor helped build our farm and molded who we are. I’m a believer that you can’t know who you are and where you’re going unless you know your roots and where you’ve been. So as I look ahead to the future of my business (named after our farm), this old, rusty 4020 is a constant reminder of hard work, farm, family and where I come from.
I explained all of this to my husband in about 3 breaths.
He is a lucky man. 😉
